Abstract

The checklist is a safety tool, whose main objective is to reduce avoidable errors, derived from attention and memory failures, by checking a series of previously approved items. Its systematic use in medicine has shown clear benefits, reducing the number of adverse events associated with invasive procedures, avoiding mortality and reducing healthcare costs.
The use of checklists has become widespread in surgical specialties since their recommendation by the World Health Organization (WHO). Although it is a topic of growing interest, it is not fully implemented in some medical specialties that perform invasive procedures, such as nephrology, whose interventionist side is currently booming. The present work shows the procedure and the characteristics that a checklist adapted to the invasive procedures of the nephrology specialty must fulfill.
