Long-term complications of bone mineral disorder associated with chronic kidney disease. A clinical case report

Abstract

Complications at bone and cardiovascular levels characterize mineral-bone disorder associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD-MBD). It occurs in nephropathic patients with poor adherence to treatment. We present a clinical case that suffered two complications associated with this entity: osteitis fibrosa cystica and stroke due to calcium embolism, which we describe. With proper management, its incidence is drastically reduced, which is why close surveillance and active follow-up of patients is essential.
